Pet Projects Rachael Ray Shares the Love Pet Projects
Rachael Ray Shares the Love

As the holiday season rolls around each year, many people begin to count their blessings of family, friends, great food, and time together. Time spent gathered around a table with those we love can produce lifelong memories and traditions, both new and old. For Rachael Ray, who millions know as the host of several hit cooking television series and talk shows, the holidays are also a time to share gratitude for our other family members—the ones with four legs and fur. A longtime dog lover, Ray and her husband, John Cusimano, will be celebrating the holidays with their rescue pit bull mix, Bella Boo Blue, this year while also helping animals around North America find loving homes.

“I’ve been an animal lover for as long as I can remember,” Ray shares. “Animals have always been a big part of the family, never just pets. My dogs have been a constant source of comfort and joy for me, so it’s no surprise they’ve been such a big part of my adult life, too.” She describes Bella as “a sweetheart with a little sass! Before Bella, we had Isaboo and Boo, who both lived long, happy lives. My pets are my heart. They remind me every day to stay grounded, to love without conditions, and to find joy in the small things.”

This love of pets led Ray to use her passion for food to develop Nutrish, her brand of dog and cat food and treats, which launched in 2008. The idea for the brand all started with Isaboo, Ray’s dog, who was entering her senior years at the time. Ray recalls, “When Isaboo got older, I wanted to feed her food that was as wholesome as what I cook for myself and my family. I started making her meals in my own kitchen. That idea—real food for real pets—grew into Nutrish. It wasn’t about building a business; it was about helping more pet parents feed their animals food they can feel good about.”

In this issue, we asked the Creatives: What is the most magical part of the holiday season for you?

Hear what Kristen had to say below!

To me, it’s the sense of nostalgia and togetherness it brings. Performing in the Christmas Spectacular each year takes me right back to being four years old, sitting in the audience for the first time, and feeling completely captivated by the music and choreography. Now, being part of that magic is surreal. Even after eight seasons with the Rockettes, I still have those pinch-me moments. Offstage, the season feels most special when I’m cooking, decorating the tree, and spending time with my family—finding peace and joy in life’s simplest traditions.

A Century of Precision Inside the Life of a Rad A Century of Precision
Inside the Life of a Radio City Rockette

As the Radio City Rockettes celebrate 100 years of high kicks, holiday magic, and timeless precision, VIE steps behind the curtain with dancer Kristen Welsh to discover the discipline, devotion, and heart that keep this century-old tradition alive.

For a hundred seasons, the Radio City Rockettes have embodied holiday magic: a perfect chorus line of high kicks, synchronized movement, and stagecraft that feels like pure enchantment. Founded in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1925 as the Missouri Rockets, the company relocated to New York City in 1927 before settling into its permanent home at Radio City Music Hall in 1932, where it became known simply as the Rockettes. This year, they celebrate their centennial, with every leap on that storied stage connecting them to generations past. In her eighth season, Kristen Welsh opens the curtain on what it truly means to live as a Rockette: early mornings, rigorous rehearsals, sisterhood, and a deep sense of legacy that has defined generations.

This hundredth year marks a legacy of precision, grace, and unshakable teamwork that has captivated audiences for generations. From their beginnings in 1925 to the dazzling Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall today, the Rockettes remain a symbol of holiday joy and timeless artistry.

For veteran Rockette Kristen, every performance is still as moving as the first. “When you pause and stop and think about the part of history you’re in, it’s so humbling,” she says. “I joined in 2017 and told myself, no matter what, I have to make it to the hundredth anniversary.”

Resiliency Through Her Art Walton County Artist Resiliency Through Her Art
Walton County Artist of the Year Mindy Moore

Artist Mindy Moore was “thrilled to pieces” to be chosen as Walton County’s Artist of the Year. For her, the recognition is not just a career milestone but also a celebration of the restoration, community, and creativity that fuel her work.

Moore has lived in Santa Rosa Beach since 2005, and while she spent many years working as a graphic designer, a personal hardship steered the direction of her artistic journey. Not long after she began painting full-time in 2019, a forest fire devastated her neighborhood. But the following spring, she watched with awe as the land bloomed back stronger than ever.

“Mother Nature came back and took over with a vengeance,” Moore recalls. “The green and the flowers—I had never seen them bloom and grow that boldly before. She wasn’t giving up.”

Now, when Moore looks out across her backyard, she sees more than the lawn, the scatter of pine trees, and the quiet sweep of the Choctawhatchee Bay—she sees inspiration. The colors of the water and woods have become the foundation of her work, an abstract exploration of nature’s power to endure and restore. “I’m inspired by the environment out here,” she says. “You’ll find a lot of the colors I use are greens and blues. There are some pieces that look more like the woods—the earthy colors. And then there are some that look more like sand and surf.”

The Artist of the Year award honors a Walton County artist whose unique artistic expression captures the essence of the destination’s renowned creativity and beauty. For Moore, being named Artist of the Year is a recognition of both her work and the journey behind it—one marked by resilience, reflection, and renewal.

The holidays feel magical when everyone crowds into the kitchen and we turn simple food into memories. For me, it’s all about coming together, sharing great food, and creating moments that last long after the dishes are done. The season isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection. Cook with friends and family, get everyone involved, have fun, and linger a little longer.
