Stars Go Green
VIE’s very own cover girl Livia Firth took her Green Carpet Challenge to the 84th Academy Awards with some amazing results. She assembled a talented cast to represent sustainable fashion on the most anticipated red carpet of the awards season. Here’s the rundown!
Livia walked the red carpet alongside her husband, Oscar winning actor Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), wearing Valentino Haute Couture. She wrote about her eco friendly dream gown on her Green Carpet Challenge blog for British Vogue:
“The resulting gown absolutely appeals to the romantic side of my nature, but has that high sheen that the red carpet demands. In fabric terms it’s a hybrid dress, combining an amazingly versatile recycled PET fabric along with the Valentino’s house silk for the beautiful sheer sleeves of the gown.”
Colin took recycling to a whole new level. He presented the award for Best Actress in the same organic wool Tom Ford tux that he wore to last year’s Oscars.
Many actors and actresses followed suit.
Meryl Streep accepted the Oscar for Best Actress (The Iron Lady) wearing a gold custom Lanvin gown made from Eco Certified Fabric.
We just can’t get enough of our stunning cover girl! Read more about the Green Carpet Challenge in the March/April issue of VIE!
