Favorites from the Runway: New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022

September 23, 2021,

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022 has come and gone, and its shows were as fabulous as ever. The much-anticipated in-person return did not disappoint, with presentations inside, outside, and on the street, plus plenty of after-parties and celebrations. The runways graced us with color, neutrals, lace, bikinis, and plenty of new silhouettes we cant wait to wear. It was evident that the year and a half of lockdown provided designers with time to let their imaginations run free. As slightly deprived consumers of fashion, this makes us very excited to see. After wearing out our casual threads last year, we are more than ready to be bold with our style. Maybe now, more than ever before, we’ve realized the privilege of expressing ourselves through style!

We put together a list of our favorite looks from the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022 runway shows. We hope these give you some inspiration for your closet as we continue to transition out of our loungewear and back to a more glamorous life.

TOM FORD

Tom Ford did it again—this time with lots of glitter, glamour, and allure. The models looked confident, sexy, and stylish in the looks inspired by his 1996 runway show. Demonstrating that certain styles always come back around (we’re looking at you, Gen Z), some of our favorites are the colorful glitter looks and this absolutely amazing gold jacket.

Christian Siriano

Next on our list of faves is our friend and icon Christian Siriano. Being able to witness his show in person was such an incredible experience, as always. Siriano filled the beautiful Gotham Hall and had his pal MARINA stop by for a live performance during the show. The clothes exude feminity and confidence, with influences from summer on the Mediterranean. We love the neon, metallics, and Siriano’s unwavering ability to create a major moment always. He ended the show by announcing a new collaboration with Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans.

Tory Burch

This year, Tory Burch brought the excitement by hosting the show on Mercer Street in front of her brand-new SoHo flagship store. It was quite literally the epitome of street style as the models embraced the vibrancy of the fashionable neighborhood’s shopping district. The designs embraced a delicate balance between retro and modernism. We particularly loved the use of gingham in this collection.

Ulla Johnson

Ulla Johnson’s show was idyllic, as usual, this time taking place in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Again, the show included Ulla’s signature feminine flair with lots of frills and floral prints. She can do no wrong in our eyes!

Altuzarra

French designer Joseph Altuzarra made his return to NYFW this year, where he showed what might be his most fabulous collection yet. His presence at New York Fashion Week was an ode to his support of the city’s comeback after the pandemic. This collection was all about finding the wonder in nature as we go about our everyday lives—an important message exhibited in many must-have pieces.

Dundas X Revolve

Norweigan designer Peter Dundas paired up with the popular online shopping site Revolve to create an array of post-pandemic dresses of our dreams. The looks, ranging from animal print jumpsuits and sultry silhouettes, are over the top but definitely not boring. We hope to see more exciting and affordable collaborations like this in the future.

Prabal Gurung

Like many designers this year, Prabal Gurung’s collection was meant to provoke more thoughts than just looking beautiful. His striking collection proposed a major reflection on all the forces behind so-called female vulnerability. The pieces were effortlessly feminine and sexy, consisting of monochromatic looks and soft color palettes.

Maryam Nassir Zadeh

This year, Maryam Nassir Zadeh presented a minimally chic collection at her Lower East Side retail store, and we were here for it. Last year, when her team could not obtain new fabrics, she was forced to work from within her archives. Still inspired by this process, Zadeh mostly recycled items from past collections to create her resort 2022 looks, proving fashion does not need to be brand new to be cool, chic, and sustainable!

Proenza Schouler

Sticking with the unapologetic boldness this fashion week seems to have brought to the table, Proenza Schouler stunned with textured knits and gorgeous acid colors. In addition, Proenza emphasized comfort with this collection, proving good style doesn’t have to be complicated.

Flying Solo

With over 110 designers from over 25 countries, Flying solo had its largest show yet with over 500 looks gracing the runway on the Manhattan skyline. Flying Solo is a membership-based retail service that partners with some of the most innovative designers and brands. There was no certainly no shortage of color or creativity on this runway!

Brandon Maxwell

Last but not least on our list is Brandon Maxwell, who made a statement as usual with bright and bold colors. The collection appeals to stylish women who like to look good on the go. This year, Maxwell refrained from showcasing any ball gowns due to the current world events—emphasizing the demand for more informal high fashion.

Overall, these designers have us more than excited for Spring 2022. The fresh take on sexy silhouettes, interesting use of textures, and most prominently, the bold use of colors tell us this upcoming season is all about standing out from the crowd.
