DIY: Repurposed Maps
As summer comes to a close, I find myself pulling out maps old and new, reminiscing about adventures long gone, and dreaming of future plans. To gear up for the Home and Garden issue I searched for a little Earth-friendly Pinspiration…literally. Here are a few quick and simple DIY projects that will put your home décor on the map.
Map Art
Wrapping canvases with that map that is still rolled up in the back of the closet is great way to give new life to an old item. All you need for this DIY is a map, two canvases (or block letters like the PARIS main photo) and spray adhesive. Nesting Place {a lovely blog} has the tutorial here.
Map Coasters
Create this coffee table conversation piece in just four simple steps. Using a craft knife, cut out custom sized map pieces, then apply glue sealant to cork coasters and let dry. MarthaStewart.com has the detailed how-to here.
Map Covered Storage Boxes
Unifying mismatched storage boxes is as simple as wrapping them with map paper. Boxes will be unique, yet still tell the same story. Get full project details in the book Design*Sponge at Home by Grace Bonney. {She’s devoted the entire second chapter to DIY projects!} The book is available at Anthropologie, Apple iBookstore, and other major book retailers.
