The Seventy-Sixth Annual Venice International Film Festival was held from August 28 through September 7, 2019, at the Palazzo del Cinema in Lido, Italy. The star-studded juried event included screenings of twenty-one new films in the main international competition. Joker, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, took home this year’s Golden Lion award, while Roman Polanski’s An Officer and a Spy was awarded the Grand Jury Prize.
