New Lost Ages

A New Album by Tyler Ramsey

“I began writing the songs for what became New Lost Ages, my latest album, during the latter part of the pandemic,” shares Tyler Ramsey, an American singer-songwriter from Asheville, North Carolina. “I had some generous neighbors who allowed me to stay in their mountainside cabin. It was only a couple of miles from where I live, so I was able to get the space I needed to write while still being only minutes from home in case my family needed me.”

Ramsey’s songwriting process doesn’t rely on a consistent routine. The former lead guitarist for Band of Horses says his only requirement for creating is to detach himself from regular day-to-day life and distractions. With a few days of solitude, he can tune into his creative voice. This was the case in that small cabin a few years ago when he penned the songs that comprise his fourth solo album, New Lost Ages. Amid processing personal challenges and grappling with pandemic-induced isolation, Ramsey poured his soul into ten heartfelt tracks, urging listeners to seek solace in music, nature, and loved ones during life’s chaos and trials. He aims for the album, which blends indie, folk, and rock styles, to serve as a beacon of hope.

“Through the songs of New Lost Ages, I hope those going through hard times can find some comfort, or, perhaps, feel less lonely,” shares Ramsey. “Many of these tracks stem from personal experiences of enduring storms or glimpsing light on the horizon.”

Ramsey has worked with numerous talented artists, and with the release of New Lost Ages, new collaborations are undoubtedly on the horizon. “Although my answer might vary depending on the day,” he muses, “if I had to select three musicians, living or dead, to collaborate on a new project with, I think I would choose U. Srinivas, Philip Glass, and Brad Mehldau. With these three together, I would simply sit back and witness the magic unfold!

With an exciting lineup of tours ahead, Ramsey’s future is bright. He is gearing up for several extended runs in late summer and fall, with plans to return to the United Kingdom and Europe—a prospect he’s eagerly anticipating. The opportunity to reconnect with fans and explore new cities fills him with excitement for the musical journey ahead.

“If you haven’t already, I encourage you to give New Lost Ages a listen. If you can, take the time to sit down and listen to the entire album,” Ramsey urges. “In our fast-paced lives, we often rush through experiences, including music, without fully savoring them.” He reflects on the recent joy he’s found in intentionally listening to music, noting its transformative power when given the opportunity to transport the listener into the artist’s world. “And if you’re up for it, come join us at one of my upcoming shows! Bring your friends along too—it’s always better to share these experiences with others.”
