A Study in Awareness, Connection & Humanity
Photography by Mark Little
“We go through many different versions of ourselves from when we started this journey until it ends,” says photographer and filmmaker Mark Little. “But in a way, we feel there is a central us, a central ‘me,’ tangled up and fighting for room to breathe.
Self-aware and unaware almost simultaneously—a fractured self trying to find its way back to center.
Is it important to understand yourself? Does it matter? Will it prompt bigger questions such as ‘What’s life about?’ and ‘Where do we come from?’ If I’m here, there must be a reason.
All these thoughts are part of what makes us human. That’s what makes us, ‘us.’ A beautiful entanglement, with endless possibilities and endless potential.”
Little, a Northwest Florida-based creative, is excited about unveiling his latest photo series, SELF, in Spring 2025. As he’s traveled and worked primarily on commercial projects in the past several years, this new series represents the artist’s transition back to focusing on his passion for unique and striking fine art photography—back to his SELF.
Working with model Amity Lin Hoch, Little used the natural landscape of Florida’s Gulf Coast as a backdrop for several shots and compelling digital processes to bring a sense of ethereal surrealism to the nine-part series. Each scene also has an accompanying video to bring the still images to life and evoke even more introspection from the viewer. Little says he wants everyone to look at this work and take what they need from it; it might mean different things to different people.
“As an artist, you don’t say, ‘Here’s the question, and here’s the answer,’” he expounds. “You want to make people ask the questions, and the answer isn’t just one thing.”
