La Scène: Seaside Prize Weekend 2025
March 2025
Promoting the building of sustainable places through education and design is the mission of the Seaside Institute. Each year, it hosts the Seaside Prize Weekend, during which architects, town planners, students, and scholars converge in the picturesque New Urbanism town of Seaside, Florida, for three days of symposia, tours, and celebrations. Seaside cofounders and visionaries Robert and Daryl Davis presented the 2025 Seaside Prize to Ellen Dunham-Jones and June Williamson on February 8 in honor of their work on “Retrofitting Suburbia”—taking forgotten or ill-adapted suburban designs and transforming them into sustainable, beautiful, functional communities or public spaces. Both women were presented the Seaside Prize Key in a custom mahogany box by E. F. San Juan.
