Photography by Arielle Levy
We couldn’t get enough of our March 2024 cover stars, Lauryn and Michael Bosstick. This power couple has built an empire, and their journey is as fascinating as it is inspiring. From founding The Skinny Confidential and Dear Media podcast network to raising two children and prioritizing their relationship, they’ve mastered the art of balancing it all.
Eager to dive deeper, we sat down with them for a fun Q&A session to uncover more about the faces behind the success. From their favorite hacks for success to their personal rituals for optimized living, Lauryn and Michael share insights that reflect their authenticity and passion for what they do.
VIE: What scares you?
Lauryn Bosstick: When I have a fearful or critical thought, I stop. Being careful of the way you think and talk to yourself is something I truly believe in. This means stepping outside yourself and noticing the way you think, then watching negativity go by and moving on to something positive. If you have trouble with it, I recommend listening to The Power of The Spoken Word by Louise Hay. It’s a 59-minute lecture on the power of your words and thoughts and how they affect the weight of your future.
As a mother, I get scared all the time. I’m scared to drive with my kids. I’m scared when someone walks across the street with them. I’m scared when I’m away from them. I’m scared to fly. All those things make me anxious.
The key is to watch those thoughts go by and not give them too much energy. Don’t release them into the ether. Move on, find a positive, or think of an alternative option to shift your thinking.
Michael Bosstick: Nothing in business. I am somewhat fearless in regard to what happens with the content or the companies. All that stuff is replaceable and material.
- What scares me is anything that could harm my family—my wife, my children, my parents, my siblings, etc. The stuff that really matters.
- Not being of sound body and mind scares me. I put my health and mental health on a pedestal far above any material business opportunity. I talk about this a lot on the show.
- Leaving potential on the table in search of comfort. This is a trap.
- Being put in a box and being told I’m not allowed or can’t do something.
These are the things that scare me, and I try to conduct my life in a way that protects these things as much as possible.
VIE: What does a day in the life of Lauryn Bosstick look like?
Waking up before my kids is always the goal. Sometimes they wake up with me, sometimes they don’t, but here is my ideal day:
- Wake up, tongue scrape, open the blinds, meditate, and make the bed (usually in a red light mask).
- Go downstairs to hydrate with whatever concoction I’m into (electrolytes, colostrum, hydrogen, lemon).
- Michael and I make breakfast for the kids.
- As soon as my son is done, I put him in the stroller, and we get outside for our circadian walk. Getting movement and daylight within an hour of waking is ideal for sleep and hormones.
- If I haven’t already meditated, I’ll do a walking meditation with Melissa Wood or Joe Dispenza.
- When we get home, I make Zaza’s lunch and drink a coffee with two inches of raw milk (controversial but the best pre-workout drink, in my opinion). Then Michael and I drive her to school.
- We go to the gym to train with Brent Hruska—lifting weights with him has totally changed my body. Exercise is a non-negotiable for me and the #1 priority in my calendar.
- Once I’m home, I’ll usually have a bone broth while I write in The Skinny Confidential planner and plan out my entire day. This is key for productivity.
- Then I use Butter Brush to energize my body and detox, shower, sculpt with Le Spoon, and do a quick skincare routine.
- Around 10:00–10:30 a.m., I get to work. I put my blinders on and only focus on the work I need to do that day.
- Once the workday is done, I put my phone away, make dinner for my kids, and spend time with them. We eat, play, bathe, and read books.
- I’m usually in bed by 8:30 p.m., reading with a sound machine and red lights on.
It doesn’t always go that perfectly, but it’s what I aim for.
VIE: What inspires you to create, whether it’s through storytelling, a new product, an event, or just in your everyday life?
Lauryn Bosstick: Genuinely, the process is what I enjoy most. I can hate something at first, but the process of getting to the other side is magical. Creating something with the audience in mind is such an honor. In every single part of my life—the podcast, a product, or a book—I like to carry that through. I’m always thinking about what’s on the other side for the audience.
Being careful of the way you think and talk to yourself is something I truly believe in.
Michael Bosstick: I think we both love the journey of making something from nothing and seeing how far we can push it. It’s a really rewarding process. The HIM & HER show itself has been personally inspiring because we get to meet so many incredible people we would have likely not met without the platform we’ve built. We both go down “rabbit holes” of interests—when that happens, I think you can see it come out in the content. Having children has been a huge push for me. I want to set an example of what a fulfilled life with hard work can bring, not just materially but spiritually.
VIE: What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of your businesses?
Lauryn Bosstick
- Most Challenging: Making sure I’m focused on the micro and the macro, meaning I want to focus on the day-to-day and be in the present but also think about strategy and purpose with the big vision. Merging them is frequently on my mind. I spend a lot of time thinking, walking, reading, being quiet, and meditating. When you meld these things together, really big things can happen. But you can get into trouble if you focus too much on one and not the other.
- Most Rewarding: Our products make people feel good and help them spend a bit of time on themselves. Also, I love creating new things for our audiences. The entire process is very rewarding, from the idea to the physical product and everything that happens in between.
I think we both love the journey of making something from nothing and seeing how far we can push it.
Michael Bosstick
- The people are the most challenging and the most rewarding. Life in business is a constant compromise to find a win-win for every interaction, and that’s not always easy. When you find that compromise where everyone feels good and grows, it’s really rewarding. When you fall short, it’s really tough.
VIE: Being an influencer and entrepreneur is a 24/7 gig! How do you unwind?
Lauryn Bosstick
- READ: For as long as I can remember, the one thing I do every night is read. I truly cannot remember an evening when I didn’t read, and I read far and wide. Read everything you can get your hands on. I try to always keep an open mind. It takes me out of myself and transports me to someone else’s world. It makes life seem less overwhelming and gives it perspective when you see how other people think.
- CONNECT WITH LOVED ONES: I also disconnect from work by connecting with friends over skinny margaritas. I’m big on vacations and lots of dinners with stimulating conversations with my husband. Work is a huge part of my life, but I also live and have fun.
- PUT THE PHONE DOWN: If I’m at a dinner with friends or family, you’ll never see me take my phone out unless it’s to take a picture. Given my job, it would be so boring and predictable if my head was stuck in my phone the whole time.
- SCHEDULE: When I’m with my kids, I’m all in, and when I’m at work, I’m all in. My color-coded Google calendar helps with this. From reading to driving time, workouts, time with my kids, meal prep, thinking time, and meditation—EVERYTHING is scheduled. Doing this helps you focus on the task at hand. If you know you only have forty minutes to check emails and then you get to spend two hours with your kids, you can check those emails efficiently. When that time is up, you can focus on something else. When it’s time to work, I fill up my day with work, but when it’s time to relax, I give myself grace, detach, and have fun. Finally, I’ve found that balance.
- GET OUTSIDE: Being in nature helps me disconnect, too. My gym is half outside, and the kids and I always walk to different places in our neighborhood.
- NO REALLY, PUT THE PHONE DOWN: I literally disconnect. I let my phone run out of battery. I put it on airplane mode in another room and have it completely out of sight. It feels like a refresh!
VIE: Tell us a little about Zaza’s Eloise-themed birthday. We love it! How did the plan come together so beautifully?
When she was two, we took her to Eloise at The Plaza (in New York), and she was in heaven. We took her there again a few months ago, and she had the best time. We went to the store, she dressed up, we bought the books, and when I asked her what theme she wanted for her fourth birthday, she chose Eloise. So we went all in, full force.
I worked really closely with a fabulous event planner to execute the vision: room service bells, bows, high tea, finger sandwiches, an Eloise actor, custom cake, guests dressed as butlers and in proper high tea attire, a hot chocolate station, lots of candles, and different dimensions for the tablescape. It all came together thanks to the most amazing team of people, and the whole afternoon was very memorable. Zaza had the most amazing time.
For special occasions, especially when my kids are involved, I want to give the same energy I’d give for a product launch. She’ll only have her fourth birthday once, so I want it to be special. It’s not just about throwing money at someone to make it all happen; it’s about using the creative skills I’ve learned through having a brand and applying them to these special occasions. It’s another time when my phone is tucked away, and we hire a photographer because I want to be fully present. Getting creative in different ways with some DIY to make it feel organic but bougie at the same time is always the goal.

- Something “trendy” that you can’t stand: Zoom. I can’t stand it. I’m all about quick calls with agendas and NO video (It’s bad for your eyes to stare at a screen, and I like to walk outside while I talk on the phone). Also, the way people text these days. It’s like a free-for-all.
- A quality you think is undervalued today: Charisma
- Your go-to beauty or skincare hack: Facial massage and manipulation with ice
- A daily habit that has transformed your life: Walking meditations outside
- Something that motivates you: Myself. Like I’ve said, no one is going to do it for you.
Get to Know Michael:
- A life-changing book: I will give you two because I can’t just pick one: Shōgun by James Clavelle and Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.
- A daily habit that has transformed your life: Reading every day from a variety of genres, subjects, and authors. I attribute most of the success I’ve had in my life to reading.
- Something that motivates you: Myself. This sounds strange, maybe, but all I am trying to do every day is be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. I only compete with myself and mostly ignore what everyone else is doing or expecting from me.
