“A gentleman is one who puts more into the world than he takes.”—George Bernard Shaw, Irish Playwright, Political Activist, and Critic
Welcome to our annual Gentlemen’s Issue featuring the legendary Kevin Costner on the cover. This ruggedly handsome Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker has recently ventured into documentary filmmaking with his new project, Yellowstone to Yosemite. This three-part limited television series focuses on Yosemite National Park and the legacy of its founding and preservation while showcasing breathtaking visuals of iconic geology, flora, and fauna, spanning from Glacier Point to El Capitan to Yosemite Falls. Streaming on FOX Nation, the series is both captivating and inspirational. Watching it was educational, as it is packed with fascinating information about the birth of this national treasure and the history that followed as a result of preserving this natural masterpiece.
Renowned for his robust major motion picture career, Costner has starred in several critically acclaimed films including Dances with Wolves, Field of Dreams, The Untouchables, Bull Durham, JFK, The Bodyguard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Silverado, Open Range, Wyatt Earp, and Tin Cup, plus the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. His work in Paramount Network’s Yellowstone marked his first regular television role and earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2023. The hit program was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Drama Series Ensemble. Costner has also won two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes for his performance in and directing of Dances with Wolves, an Emmy, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Hatfields & McCoys, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in Hidden Figures. His latest film, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, premiered in June 2024. It is a great honor to publish this story written and curated by Jordan Staggs, “Yellowstone to Yosemite: Celebrating America’s National Parks.”
The United States is home to sixty-three national parks, all designated and managed by the National Park Service. These parks showcase a variety of landscapes, ranging from the Grand Canyon to the Everglades, and include diverse ecosystems such as mountain ranges, ancient forests, arid deserts, and bountiful coastlines. Including these parks, the National Park Service oversees more than four hundred properties, including national monuments, historical parks, and national battlefields. Including these national parks, the National Park Service manages over four hundred properties, encompassing national monuments, historical parks, and national battlefields. It’s time to take our cues from Kevin Costner and explore our countryside, as it is truly a spectacular sight. “America the Beautiful” awaits our attention, and I am eager to begin the journey to see as much as possible.
This issue is dedicated to honoring good men everywhere. We hope you feel appreciated with every turn of the page. Personally, I am fortunate to be married to a true gentleman who, time and time again, demonstrates to me the meaning of love.
To Love and Life!
