Pvolve x Jennifer Aniston Ring in the New Year
Interview by Jordan Staggs | Photography by Zoey Grossman
With each new year often comes reinvigorated desires to improve, get stronger, eat well, or set new habits in motion. The team at Pvolve, a growing chain of high-end workout facilities and purveyor of at-home fitness programs and equipment, helps thousands of people reach their goals daily! One of them is our cover star, Jennifer Aniston, who has been a fan of Pvolve since 2021 and has worked directly with cofounder Rachel Katzman and director of training Dani Coleman to assemble new programs.
It’s safe to say Aniston has won the title of “America’s Sweetheart” with her many film and television projects since the sitcom Friends launched her into superstardom in 1994. The show is a multigenerational hit even among today’s younger viewers, thanks to its binge-worthiness and streaming availability. The Morning Show, Aniston’s latest hit series, launched in 2019 and gained her a 2020 SAG Award for Outstanding Lead Female Actor in a Drama Series. It has been renewed for a fourth and fifth season on Apple TV+, with Season Four expected to premiere sometime in 2025. Although not much is known about the show’s next season, which wrapped production in early December 2024, one thing is sure: Aniston is as vibrant, captivating, and beautiful as ever as she portrays seasoned news anchor Alex Levy alongside her costars Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell.
Filming and marketing her latest projects while traveling the world, attending countless events, working as the founder and face of LolaVie haircare, and promoting her 2024 children’s book, Clydeo Takes a Bite Out of Life (inspired by her dog Clyde), Aniston doesn’t let her busy schedule keep her from staying fit. That’s where Pvolve takes center stage. Pvolve says that in 2021, the actress was “looking for solutions to keep exercising while facing burnout from her shooting schedule, rigorous workouts, and a back injury. Spurred by a friend’s results with Pvolve, Jen began streaming the workouts and had a transformation of her own in her relationship to fitness. The method’s equal emphasis on aesthetic results and longevity changed how she thought about working out—so much so that, in 2023, she joined the company.”
“With this workout method, I’m stronger than I’ve ever felt before,” Aniston adds. “I’m so proud to support our female founder and the beyond-talented trainers. This is one of my favorite workouts, and I’m so grateful for the team and excited for what’s to come.”
VIE was thrilled to catch up with trainer Dani Coleman to learn more about this growing fitness brand, its recent Healthy Aging Study, and Aniston’s involvement in its programs!
VIE: Can you tell us a little about your background and career?
Dani Coleman: I fell in love with fitness from a young age—my family enrolled me in dance lessons at age two. I’ve always been drawn to movement and wanted to expand my knowledge of fitness. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. After years of dancing professionally, I started experiencing pain that impacted my relationship with movement. As a result, I pursued certifications from NASM, The Gray Institute, and the IIN Institute to understand better how to cross-train more effectively. I have been in the fitness industry for over ten years now! I could not be more thrilled that my continued love for movement led me to Pvolve as their director of training.
VIE: What do you love most about Pvolve? How does it differ from other workout gear and programs available today?
DC: The Pvolve Method introduced me to a method I’d never experienced before and challenged how I thought about training. Pvolve workouts differ from other workouts as they don’t require you to “force” the movement, which is what I had been used to as a dancer. There is no need to swallow pain. Instead, the Pvolve method pairs functional movement (mimicking how your body moves in everyday life) with resistance-based equipment to improve strength, mobility, and stability. I knew this was something I wanted to share with other people, and I joined as a trainer a few months later.
VIE: As a Pvolve trainer, what is a “day in the life” like for you? What is your ultimate goal for your clients?
DC: My days are truly never the same due to the many hats I have the pleasure of wearing for Pvolve. However, a large part of my role is bringing this method to life, leading workouts on various channels like in-studio at our West Hollywood location, on our live virtual studio, on-demand, and working with some incredible VIP clients. Outside of physically moving myself, I also help train our corporate and rapidly expanding franchise trainers! No matter what I’m doing, a few things are consistent with my days: I am usually up around 4:00 or 5:00 a.m., I get to move my body more than sit, and I do all these wonderful things with the best community and peers.
The first step into getting in shape can be intimidating; however, there are a few ways to stay on track with your fitness journey.
VIE: Can you take us briefly through a step-by-step Pvolve workout?
DC: Pvolve workouts are dynamic in nature since they move through all three planes of motion, just like our daily movements: bending, rotating, reaching, and lunging. We pair daily movements with resistance equipment to build total-body strength, mobility, and stability to keep you moving long-term.
Our workouts always start with a warm-up, then head into different movement blocks focusing on form and feeling, ending with a cool down. Depending on which class type you choose, you can use just your body weight, one of our thirteen pieces of incredible equipment, or heavy weights. However, no matter what workout you choose, every workout will always be different. We have an extensive learning process as trainers to ensure your experience is unmatched and elevated, providing a workout that will leave you feeling better than when you started.
Clients have been loving the holistic approach to movement that Pvolve celebrates. Our formats provide a one-stop shop for your movement needs: Strength & Sculpt, Sculpt & Burn, and Progressive Weight Training. These formats, paired with our one-of-a-kind equipment, will drive your results. I’d say Progressive Weight Training is a client favorite since it focuses on building lean muscle mass with heavier weights. It’s a guaranteed challenge and a good time!
VIE: How did you land the role as Jennifer Aniston’s trainer, and what goals did she come to Pvolve hoping to accomplish?
DC: After Jennifer’s friend introduced her to Pvolve during the pandemic in 2021, she was immediately hooked on Pvolve’s virtual classes. In mid-2022, Jennifer reached out regarding private lessons, and the rest is history.
Over these two years together, we have continued to focus on increasing her total body strength. We have done that by training in all three of our formats weekly: Strength & Sculpt, Sculpt & Burn, and Progressive Weight Training. It has been incredible to see her strength increase with heavier weights specifically. Of course, we always use some of her favorite pieces of equipment, like the p.band, gliders, and p.3 trainer!
VIE: We love that Jen’s recent campaign with Pvolve highlights healthy aging and encourages women of all ages to exercise! What are some of the best habits women can adopt to help them age with strength and stamina?
DC: Start small and set realistic goals. It sounds so simple, but I truly find it’s the biggest obstacle most of my clients struggle with. It can be fifteen minutes to an hour, two days or six days a week, but work with what you realistically have time-wise in your schedule to get your workouts done. Overall, consistent exercise and gradually increasing weight are great habits women can adopt to help them age with strength and stamina.
Focus on building muscle mass by lifting heavier weights! Starting at age 30, women naturally lose 3 to 5 percent of muscle mass per decade. However, according to the Healthy Aging Study, Pvolve’s workouts are proven to help offset this muscle loss. According to the study, women in the 12-week Pvolve program experienced a significant increase in lean muscle mass and improved their lower body strength by 19 percent.
Along with mobility and stability (which also improved for the Pvolve group), balance and flexibility are vital for helping to reduce the risk of falls later in life. Also, healthy levels of cholesterol and triglycerides are linked to a lowered risk of stroke and heart disease—the number one killer of women. Women in the Pvolve group showed a significant decrease in cholesterol levels and triglycerides (a type of fat found in the blood).
VIE: Tell us a little about Jen’s Spring Challenge in 2024. How did you work together to develop this?
DC: Since Jennifer has partnered with Pvolve these last few years, she’s felt stronger, more mobile, and more defined. As a result of her passion for Pvolve, we created the Spring Challenge—a Jen-inspired workout routine that includes some of our favorite workout sessions and mimics our daily training schedule. Our goal with the Spring Challenge was to encourage more people to move and experience this incredible method firsthand!
VIE: Tell us about your experience on the Today Show!
DC: Being on the Today Show (twice!) was truly a dream come true! It was absolutely surreal to be on a show that I’d grown up watching. The best part was that I had the pleasure of standing beside our chief training officer, Antonietta Vicario, and our director of programming, Maeve McEwen, who worked fiercely beside me in building this magical method!
VIE: Getting into shape can be daunting. What is your number-one piece of advice for anyone starting a new fitness journey, whether they’re starting to exercise for the first time or want to try a new program?
DC: The first step into getting in shape can be intimidating; however, there are a few ways to stay on track with your fitness journey.
- Set a specific goal that is tangible for your lifestyle and has a specific game plan. The more in the weeds with the details you can be, the better! Think of all the obstacles and excuses that could possibly come up against your goal and create a game plan that helps tackle those.
- Visual reminders! For me, that is a post-it on my door that I see every day before I leave for work. Be above the “out of sight, out of mind” mentality.
- Set rewards at the 30-, 60-, and 90-day markers! Sticking to your goals and game plan should feel rewarding, and you should acknowledge that accomplishment with yourself!
- Accountability. That can be in the form of a friend, a support group, social media, etc. Find someone who will celebrate your wins with you and help you tackle your goals.
And always remember: It’s not what you do, but how you do it. Whatever gets you up and moving, do it! Just try to do it with good form so you can keep doing it.
VIE: What’s coming up for Pvolve? Any new programs, products, or collaborations you’d like to share with our readers?
DC: The Pvolve Trainers are always hard at work curating the next thing for our amazing community! Be on the lookout in January for the most recent project that we have been hard at work developing!
