Christmas at Wesley House Is Back for 2024!
November 2024
Step Back in Time to Celebrate the Holidays
The holiday season is a time of warmth, tradition, and celebration—and there’s no better place to embrace all three than at Eden Gardens State Park in South Walton, Florida. Nestled among the park’s lush grounds, the historic Wesley House offers a unique glimpse into the past, where the season’s spirit comes alive with Victorian charm and festive cheer. Whether you’re anticipating sugar plums or the soft patter of reindeer hooves on the roof, the Wesley House will fill your heart with holiday magic.
Starting November 14, 2024, the Wesley House will be transformed into a festive Victorian holiday wonderland, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the traditions of Christmas in the late 1800s. The house, originally built in 1897 and lovingly restored by Lois Maxon in the 1970s, will be adorned with antique furniture, twinkling lights, and vintage holiday decor, creating a magical atmosphere that will transport you to a bygone era.
This year’s theme, A Victorian Christmas, promises to be one of the most enchanting yet. A dedicated group of volunteers, including local businesses and community organizations, has thoughtfully decorated each room, creating a warm and welcoming environment for visitors to explore. The decorations will remain on display through January 6, 2025, giving you plenty of time to visit and experience this festive display.
The season’s highlight at the Wesley House is the much-anticipated Christmas Candlelight Open House, set for Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (weather permitting). During this special event, the park will come alive with luminary-lined pathways, inviting guests to stroll through the gardens after sunset. Inside, guests can tour the beautifully decorated rooms, all at no charge. The evening will also feature live music, cookies, and hot beverages provided by the Friends of Eden Gardens at the Pavilion, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.
In addition to the Candlelight Open House, visitors can enjoy tours of the Wesley House, available Thursday through Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tours are an excellent way to learn about the home’s rich history, which dates back to the early days of Walton County. The antique furnishings, historic significance, and role in the local community make it an engaging experience for history lovers and families alike.
As part of Walton County’s Bicentennial celebrations, the Wesley House offers a unique opportunity to learn about the area’s heritage while celebrating the season. The house was donated to the Florida Park Service in 1968 and has since become a beloved community treasure, offering a living history museum and a cherished venue for seasonal festivities.
Each year, this holiday transformation is made possible by the incredible support of local businesses, organizations, and volunteers. Among them, The Seaside Style has played a vital role in providing holiday decor and helping bring the season’s festive spirit to life. Other local businesses and groups contributing to the holiday magic include:
Point Washington Historical Association
Green Thumb Garden Club
Coastal Seniors of South Walton
Seaside Kids
Impact 100
Fort Walton High School Garden Club
Community Garden at Padgett Park
Point Washington Medical Clinic
Grace Corradino
Walton County Master Gardeners
The contributions of these groups enhance the festive atmosphere and foster a deep sense of community, making this annual tradition even more special.
Eden Gardens State Park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset, and the Wesley House is available for tours throughout the holiday season. Entrance to the park is $4 per vehicle. Whether you’re a local or visiting Walton County during the holiday season, the Wesley House is a must-see destination that promises to make your holidays a little brighter and more memorable.
