As fall approaches in Northwest Florida, The REP Theatre is gearing up for its exceptional 2024 fall concert series. Celebrating its twenty-fourth year, The REP continues to draw in audiences with a mix of theater and music at its cozy seventy-seat Meeting Hall Theatre in Seaside, Florida. Mike Kinnebrew

As the son of a Baptist preacher and nurse, Mike Kinnebrew’s early years were spent in various locations across the southeast before his family settled in Atlanta when he was a teenager. Mike describes how he found solace in songwriting amidst the chaos of moving, explaining, “I was mesmerized by how a song could reach out and grab you by the heart—or by the throat.” His music is best described as soulful Indie folk with a remarkable capacity to connect and resonate with audiences. Mike has performed alongside well-known artists, including Oteil Burbridge of The Allman Brothers Band, Kristian Bush of Sugarland, Drew and Ellie Holcomb, Joan Jett, Howie Day, and Andrew Ripp.

Singer-songwriter Jill Sobule has had an impressive thirty-year career, showcasing her talents across folk, pop, and satire. Her songs cover various themes and are deeply personal, socially conscious, humorous, and derisively tragic. Notable hits like the original “I Kissed A Girl” and “Supermodel” (from the motion picture Clueless) only touch the surface of her impressive repertoire.

Artists as diverse as Alison Krauss, Waylon Jennings, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and Dierks Bentley have covered his songs. As he continues evolving as a writer, performer, and recording artist, Black has never before expressed so much of the creative process on his own terms, deepening his work and leaving the listener with some of the most fully formed and resonant music of his career.

He has had a varied career, releasing albums with major labels and performing alongside artists such as REM, KT Tunstall, and Steve Earle. Mars, who hails from Mississippi, was exposed to a range of pop/rock music during his upbringing, drawing inspiration from artists like Michael Jackson and the Violent Femmes. His music is characterized by a minimalist style, featuring sparse instrumentation and an emphasis on evocative grooves and ambient space, enhancing his powerful songwriting’s impact.

Professionally known as BLKBOK, Charles Wilson III is from Detroit’s inner city and has been passionate about music since childhood. By age eight, BLKBOK was already a celebrated piano prodigy, winning competitions and captivating audiences. He adopted the name BLKBOK as a tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach, symbolizing his diverse journey from pop and hip-hop culture to his vibrant, piano-driven live performances and critically acclaimed, neo-classical debut album, Black Book. The album was recognized by The New York Times as one of the “5 Classical Albums to Listen to Right Now.”

The Sock Joplin Trio

“A Journey into Sound” features pianist and Music Sociologist Joshua “Sock Joplin” Thompson, along with a lineup of guest artists, is set to make a lasting impression on the Seaside community. Thompson will be joined by his identical twin brother, Jared Thompson, a composer, saxophonist, and bandleader of the band Premium Blend. The duo will be accompanied by the powerful vocalist PsyWrn Simone. This talented group of nationally touring artists will create a musical experience that delves into the rich and interconnected histories of Black music, spanning from classical composers of African descent to spirituals, jazz, Hip-hop, and Neo-Soul.
