10 Things We’re Excited About for Fall 2016
Fall in love with fall
September has just begun, and we can’t believe it. Wasn’t it just June two weeks ago? We could have sworn we were just starting to enjoy the hot, summer days at the beach, and now we’re about to trade in our surfboards for snowboards.
From off-the-shoulder tops to cozy knit dusters, we’re ready to welcome the next chapter of fashion for the year. Besides the change in temperature and the reappearance of pumpkin-spiced lattes, we’re delighted for the other bonuses that come with the season. Here are 10 things to get excited about this fall:
Layers
Peel away the structured garments and add movement to your look with soft cardigans, parka jackets, and flowing tops and bottoms. This fall season is all about comfortable but stylish layers, and we’re excited to get cozy-chic.
New York Fashion Week
Lights, camera, runway! New York Fashion Week is always on our radar. For some of us, this is considered the fashion Super Bowl or Olympics. We love the glamour of dressing up and seeing the exaggerated, soon-to-come, over-the-top fashions flowing down the runway. Check out NYFW.com to find out more, get the schedule of show listings, and view live feeds.
Met Costume Institute “Master Works” Exhibition
From the museum that hosts The Met Gala (one of the most glamorous annual fashion events) comes a fall exhibition featuring significant acquisitions of the past ten years in fashion. Explore iconic works by designers who have changed the course of fashion and see how the industry has evolved into an art form. Although this exhibit doesn’t start until November 18, tickets are available now at MetMuseum.org.
Scream Queens
Full of some of the best fashion inspiration and witty humor, we’re excited to see Emma Roberts and the hilarious Jamie Lee Curtis back on TV in the second season of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens!
I “Shoes” You
Ankle boots, knee-length boots, over-the-knee boots, we love them all! Claiming most of our closet space (and for good reason), the chunky style shoes are always a fall/winter essential, which makes them a great investment. At least, that’s what we like to tell ourselves. This fall, we’re all about ankle boots. Comfortable and versatile, they pair with just about anything.
CMJ Music Marathon
Energizing the spirit of fall is the CMJ Music Marathon in New York’s Manhattan and Brooklyn boroughs. This glorious music-centric marathon, generally held in the beginning of October, boasts a pleasant mix of high-profile artists and emerging musicians. This fall’s CMJ Marathon date and lineup are still to be announced, so keep your eyes and ears peeled and get updates at CMJ.com.

New York Comic Con
Unleashing our playful, inner-youth side is New York Comic Con, where dressing up isn’t just for Halloween and your favorite characters come to life. Meet your favorite superheroes, villains, and mythical characters, and much more at the largest pop culture event on the East Coast! This year’s NY Comic Con starts October 6 and ends October 9. Find out more at NewYorkComicCon.com.
Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, and Sweeney Todd are just a few of many great whimsical Tim Burton films, so naturally we’re excited for his next one to be released September 30. If you haven’t seen the trailer for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, then be sure to check it out in the video above.
The Release of Apple’s iPhone 7
Apple’s annual release of the newest iPhone7 (fittingly, on September 7) is not listed as an official “event,” but it should be. Known to cause “campouts” days before the release and generate lines longer than at the most popular amusement parks in the world, this year should be no different. Who doesn’t like the newest, shiniest thing on the market?
Stargazing on the High Line
Technically this event started this past spring, however it stretches into fall, making it an experience to try this season! Every Tuesday from dusk until a half-hour before the park closes, New York City’s High Line invites you to stretch your legs and take a closer look at the stars with high-powered telescopes provided by the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York. Find out more at TheHighLine.org.
With a list like this, we hope you’re as eager for fall to come as we are. What are you most excited about this season? We’d love to hear it!
