Kicking off a wine-derful 🍷 fundraising weekend with a Gulf 🌊 view! We loved getting to mix and mingle with this year's incredible @dcwaf featured vintners and honorary chef @fcovington3 of @seagarsprimesteaks at last night's “Toes in the Sand” welcome event at @hiltonsandestin. We can't wait for tonight's Patron Dinners, including VIE’s dinner at ANR at the @campcreek.inn to benefit @cvhnkids05 with @domainedella and @betzwine. Then it's on to Saturday's main wine tasting and auction event! Stay tuned!

Life Is Good: Bon Appétit!

As a child, I would watch my mother watch The French Chef, hosted by Julia Child. An American chef, author, and TV personality, Julia had enthusiasm, a distinctive accent, and a love of using copious amounts of butter while she taught viewers to cook French meals. She always closed with, “This is Julia Child. Bon appétit!”

Bon appétit means “enjoy your meal.” It’s so important to enjoy a time of peace, nourishment, and, if you’re lucky, good conversation. Julia enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu, then brought French cuisine to the American public in 1961 with her book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She changed how Americans cooked and viewed food and ushered in the celebrity chef craze, paving the way for the next great chef in pop culture—Emeril. Emeril Lagasse became a household name in the ‘90s and remains a prolific chef, restaurateur, author, TV host, culinary genius, and disruptor growing his empire.

I am lucky to know Emeril and his family, including his son, Chef E.J. Lagasse. After renovating their landmark restaurant in New Orleans last summer, E.J. now helms the kitchen as chef patron. Members of VIE’s team and friend and longtime advertiser Susan Lovelace, owner of Lovelace Interiors, recently had dinner there. We were speechless over what I call “new food” that tastes out-of-this-world good! It’s a dining event. As a self-described Francophile, I have an affinity for all things French and wanted to name this culinary-focused issue Bon Appétit. Its cover star is the legendary @chefjimshirley, whose restaurants are unforgettable. He and his team continue to open fantastic concepts with creative menus and events, including the latest,@the87central in Seaside, Florida. Jim has authored multiple food columns, released a cookbook, appeared on TV, and cooked at the James Beard House numerous times. Catch my interview with Jim on VIE Speaks podcast, as well.

VIE, when translated from French, means “life,” which is what we aim to celebrate! And so the story continues . . .
