There is a rare sense of clarity found in Alys Beach, Florida, shaped by soaring white architecture, serene courtyards, and sunlight that seems to move softly between its sculpted lines. Thanks to the team of professionals at its facilities, wellness is not presented as a trend or a checklist but as a way of life, intentionally built into the landscape of this thoughtfully curated coastal community.
As the town moves into the New Year, Alys Beach is deepening its commitment to holistic well-being through innovative programming, elevated amenities, and community-wide engagement. To explore how wellness is woven into every facet of life, I spoke with Diana Lane, director of public relations, as well as ZUMA Wellness Center’s head fitness professional, Patrick Hoffner, and assistant fitness professional, Kelli DeWispelare. Together, they shared insight into the philosophy, design, and evolving initiatives that continue to shape private wellness for homeowners and guests at Alys Beach.
Wellness in Alys Beach is rooted in the natural environment. “Wellness is inspired by our coastal setting and the incredible natural beauty that surrounds us,” Lane explains. From the Gulf waters and sugar-white beaches to the longleaf pine forest, wetlands, and pedestrian pathways, the landscape invites daily movement and outdoor exploration. This connection to nature is complemented by thoughtfully designed, state-of-the-art wellness facilities, including the ZUMA Wellness Center and Racquet Sports Facility, which support physical fitness, recovery, rejuvenation, and mental well-being in equal measure.
Architecture plays a significant role in reinforcing this sense of calm. The town’s iconic whitewashed masonry is not only environmentally conscious but emotionally intentional. The high-albedo white roofs and walls create a natural cooling effect, reducing heat and energy use, while the color—reminiscent of the 2026 Pantone Color of the Year, Cloud Dancer—offers a sense of calm. “The cohesive white architecture doesn’t compete for attention,” Lane says. “Instead, it frees up mental space and creates a peaceful, soothing experience.”
Movement is equally embedded in the town’s design. Built on New Urbanist principles, Alys Beach prioritizes walkability and human connection. Residences are thoughtfully placed closer together, interwoven with pocket parks, pedestrian paths, amenities, beach access points, and the expansive Nature Preserve. This density encourages residents and guests to walk or bike rather than drive, naturally integrating activity into daily life. Lane notes that this shared use of space also strengthens community, contributing to mental and emotional well-being alongside physical health.
This philosophy comes to life at ZUMA Wellness Center and Racquet Sports Facility, where wellness is approached holistically. From the moment guests arrive, a Zen-like courtyard featuring wood, water, and natural textures sets a tranquil tone, while ZUMA Café offers infused water, coffees, teas, smoothies, and protein-forward snacks. Inside, the facility is thoughtfully divided to support both movement and recovery, with cardio and strength training spaces, indoor and outdoor studios for Pilates, yoga, barre, and dynamic stretching, and treatment rooms and steam rooms designed for restoration.
Outdoors, a covered lap pool supports aquatic training and classes like Bogafit, while an expansive courtyard garden provides space for TRX and bootcamp-style sessions. Adjacent to ZUMA, the Racquet Sports Facility features four American red-clay tennis courts, three pickleball courts, and generous green spaces with spectator seating and lounge areas.
Racquet sports play a meaningful role in fostering connection and wellness within the Alys Beach community. According to Tyler Marengo, ZUMA’s director of racquets, the courts serve as a natural gathering place for homeowners and guests, bringing together longtime residents, new homeowners, and rental guests through shared experiences. From open pickleball play and live-ball tennis clinics to informal doubles matches, racquet sports offer a fun, social outlet that encourages movement while strengthening relationships on and off the court. “Our players are able to form great friendships on and off the courts,” Marengo shares, noting that these activities create an experience that is active, inclusive, and enjoyable for all.
Beyond structured fitness, wellness in Alys Beach unfolds organically outdoors. Swimming, paddleboarding, sailing, biking, jogging, and leisurely walks along the beach or trails are part of everyday life. Community pools at ZUMA, Caliza Pool, the owner-exclusive Beach Club, and the soon-to-open Silva will offer additional spaces for relaxation and connection, reinforcing the idea that wellness doesn’t require a schedule; it simply requires presence.
For Hoffner and DeWispelare, balance is the foundation of everything ZUMA offers. “True wellness isn’t built through intensity alone; it’s built through sustainability,” Hoffner explains. Equal emphasis on movement, recovery, and sleep allows the body to adapt and grow stronger without burnout.
Programming at ZUMA is curated with intention and inclusivity, designed to meet people where they are. Classes emphasize foundational movement patterns, strength, stability, mobility, and cardiovascular health while offering progressions and modifications for all fitness levels. “The goal isn’t one-size-fits-all fitness,” DeWispelare adds, “but intelligent, adaptable movement.” Equally important is the quality of instruction, which the team believes is the key to building consistency and long-term engagement.

Looking ahead to 2026, Alys Beach is expanding its wellness offerings even further with a collection of initiatives designed to deepen connection and accessibility across the community. New programming includes dedicated employee wellness initiatives and immersive retreats for residents and guests. “What excites us most is the opportunity to extend the ZUMA experience beyond the studio walls,” Hoffner shares. The employee wellness program is designed to foster camaraderie and collaboration among teams, while retreat weekends allow immersive experiences where movement, education, and restorative rest come together as the ultimate expression of modern luxury.
At its heart, Alys Beach is a place for both activity and healing. Lane reflects on the community’s ability to support those navigating losses, illnesses, or recoveries, offering a natural and built environment that nurtures restoration. As wellness continues to evolve, it remains integral to Alys Beach’s identity, treating wellness as a lifestyle rather than a goal, grounded in harmony among nature, architecture, and daily life.
