Located in Dongguan’s rapidly growing Bay Area, the Songshan Lake Exhibition and Performance Centre establishes a new civic destination where architecture, performance, and community intersect. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the waterfront complex draws inspiration from the flowing “water sleeves” of traditional Cantonese opera costumes, creating a striking silhouette that honors the region’s cultural heritage while looking toward the future. Since opening with The Sound of Songhu, performed by the China National Symphony Orchestra, the Songshan Lake center has welcomed audiences into spaces designed for concerts, exhibitions, theatrical productions, conferences, and public gatherings. Sustainability remains central to the project through energy-efficient building systems, photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting, and restored wetlands, proving that thoughtful design can enrich both cultural life and the surrounding landscape.
