Love in the Sand

Photos by Hello Miss Lovely

It all began in 2018 when Mitch Corlett, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, made the leap to Nashville in search of new experiences. Little did he know, this decision would lead him to Renae Currey, a Nashville local with a magnetic personality. Their first encounter, a casual coffee date in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, sparked a connection that quickly became unbreakable. As their relationship blossomed, they set off on a memorable trip to Joshua Tree in September 2020. Amid the stunning vistas of the national park, Mitch chose the perfect moment to propose, sealing their love among the natural beauty of the desert landscape.

“We wanted a wedding that was less traditional, more personal, and most importantly, fun!” shares Renae, owner of Love Salon 30A. With this in mind, they set out to create a celebration as unique as their love and shared the whole story with VIE.

The Venue

Nestled along the picturesque shores of Grayton Beach, Florida, Renae and Mitch found the perfect setting for their union. With its pristine sands, crystal-clear Gulf, and unique coastal dune lake, Grayton Beach exuded a natural beauty that captured their hearts from the moment they laid eyes on it. The allure of the Western Lake outfall and the convenience of the Grayton Beach boardwalk provided an idyllic backdrop for their ceremony.

For Renae and Mitch, the wedding was more than just a ceremony. It was a celebration of love shared with their closest family and friends. With a guest list of about thirty, they envisioned an intimate affair that would reflect their laid-back style and joyful spirit as a couple. Planning every detail themselves, they infused the event with personal touches and heartfelt moments.

The Wedding Day

As the sun began to set on December 21, 2023, Renae and Mitch exchanged vows against the backdrop of Grayton Beach’s breathtaking scenery, surrounded by the love and support of their cherished guests.

The ceremony setup included a beach bonfire, and one of the couple’s favorite memories was having a few minutes to themselves after the ceremony to enjoy the sunset and bonfire, just the two of them. Meanwhile, guests enjoyed cocktail hour at the nearby Brink House.

Following the ceremony, the festivities continued at the Brink House, a private vacation rental in Grayton Beach, where the couple hosted a reception that felt more like a lively gathering among friends than a traditional wedding. This is love the second time around for both Renae and Mitch, so they opted for a fun theme of “This ain’t our first rodeo.” Guests arrived in “coastal cowgirl” and “beach cowboy” attire, adding a playful touch to the celebration. “Canadian tuxedos and fringe were encouraged, and seeing our guests have fun with their interpretations of the dress code was one of the highlights of the day,” the bride recounts.

Instead of saving for a honeymoon, the couple is building their dream house in Point Washington State Forest. For them, this home is more than a place to live—it embodies love and commitment, their forever honeymoon.

Thank you, and congrats!
