In sunny Northwest Florida, Walton County Tourism is the overarching entity for a destination with incredible depth and variety. Representing everything from the sixteen beach neighborhoods of South Walton to the natural beauty and historic charm of Authentic Walton, this work requires carefully balancing tourist and resident satisfaction.

Through creative marketing, an engaging social media presence, and dedicated coordination with meeting and wedding planners, Walton County Tourism promotes the details that create an unforgettable experience for each visitor. But this work doesn’t just impact out-of-towners.

When Walton County visitors check into a hotel or rental, they’re booking a vacation while also powering a robust network of local partnerships that keep the community thriving. By stimulating visitor spending and supporting jobs, this creates an overall positive impact that residents enjoy year-round.

Visitors account for the vast majority of Walton County government revenues, saving each local household a considerable amount on taxes. In turn, Walton County Tourism uses tourism revenue to improve local communities. This includes maintenance and upgrades to beaches, pathways, public access points, parking, public transportation, and beach safety initiatives.

To amplify this ripple effect of success, Walton County Tourism leverages partner marketing opportunities that benefit the whole community, maximizing its resources so local businesses can gain high-dollar exposure for a fraction of the cost. The result? A rising tide that lifts the business climate and community simultaneously.

Cooperative Marketing Program (Co-Op)

The Cooperative Marketing Program is an invitation for Walton County’s valued bed tax and non-bed tax collecting partners to secure premier media placements. This helps align businesses with the destination’s overarching brand narrative, enabling strategic investment in high-impact channels.

Walton County Tourism curates a collection of prestigious advertising opportunities, from a spread in Travel + Leisure to digital avenues like Connected TV and exclusive Southwest Airlines in-flight video placements. Walton County Tourism commits to absorbing more than 50 percent of the cost of every placement while managing creative development, ensuring a high-end result for brands.

“Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa has proudly partnered with Walton County Tourism for many years,” explains Kevin Rosa, director of sales and marketing for the resort. “For future partners, we would encourage leaning fully into both co-op and activation opportunities. The more you invest in telling the destination’s story alongside Walton County Tourism, the greater the return—not just for your business, but for the entire community.”

The annual sales period for this program occurs in May and is conducted digitally via Coop.VisitSouthWalton.com on a first-come, first-served basis. This allows partners to integrate placements into their budgets, while an always-on component is available for partners who need supplementary marketing support.

Activations

The Activations program transports the essence of South Walton’s twenty-six miles of sugar-white sand and sixteen distinct beach neighborhoods to a selection of high-value emerging markets. This initiative helps elevate the destination’s profile and increases occupancy during the shoulder season.

In recent years, the destination has concentrated investment in premier fall and winter markets, encouraging those in snowy cities to escape to the beach. This activation circuit has included Chicago Gourmet and New York City Wine & Food Festival, bringing Walton County charm to major metropolitan areas.

One collaborator is Seaside, one of South Walton’s most-visited beach neighborhoods.

“Participating in Chicago Gourmet as partners with Walton County Tourism…elevated our presence well beyond what we could do independently and put a spotlight on the town and the incredible culinary talent we have in Seaside,” notes Kevin Boyle, general manager of Seaside’s community development organization.

“We also walked away with meaningful connections to key media and industry partners who are highly influential within the culinary and luxury travel space. Just as important, it put us directly in front of our ideal audience (affluent, experience-driven travelers from the Midwest), where we’re seeing a clear and growing segment for Seaside,” Boyle adds.

These activation spaces are thoughtfully designed to target the discerning leisure traveler, emphasizing our breathtaking beaches and thriving culinary scene. Installations often include immersive elements, such as a photo-ready porch façade with Gulf views or an interactive mini-golf experience for the sports-loving traveler.

Each year, Walton County Tourism also invites local chefs—most recently, Chef Nikhil Abuvala and Chef Jim Shirley—and their teams to showcase South Walton’s culinary prowess at these food and wine events. As guests sample South Walton’s award-winning cuisine, they engage in meaningful conversations with destination ambassadors and take home branded mementos to keep the destination top of mind.

Walton County’s partners also attend these events, with some chefs serving as the featured culinary talent. This allows partners to engage with guests, contribute to giveaways, and expand the destination’s narrative, elevating their own brand alongside the destination’s.

“I’ve had the chance to partner with Walton County Tourism on several trips over the years as a chef and ambassador for the area,” says Chef Nikhil Abuvala, South Walton’s very own James Beard Award Finalist. “I think it helps create real awareness for the area and for the businesses in it, and I’d definitely encourage other businesses to consider partnering with them.”

Social Media and Content Promotion

Walton County Tourism also highlights partners across its social media, website, and video channels throughout the year. Strategic opportunities, such as shared social content, featured placement in each neighborhood’s unique First Timers Guide, or chef spotlights in the In the Kitchen with South Walton series, allow businesses to amplify their brand through a cohesive storytelling approach.

Walton County Tourism also features partners on Authentic Walton’s social calendars and weekend itinerary blogs, highlighting one-of-a-kind sites to visit, places to eat, and even more to explore.

Through these comprehensive initiatives, Walton County Tourism is dedicated to cultivating a sustainable equilibrium in which residents’ quality of life is not just protected but also enriched by tourism, the engine of our community’s economic prosperity.
