52 Broadway St, Asheville, NC 28801
One of Momentum Gallery’s inaugural artists, Bates makes intricate, nature-inspired works that continue to evolve, comprising of shapes delineated with complex patterning. Utilizing a range of materials and mark-making techniques, including paint, ink, and embroidery, Samantha creates compelling works on paper and canvas that offer a unique and graphic point of view on the great outdoors.
As the Southeast’s premier contemporary-realist painter, Cleaveland’s meticulous eye for detail and mastery of light and perspective have enchanted viewers for decades. These emotive landscapes not only capture time and place but also convey a sense of memory and longing. Many of the paintings in this collection come from the artist’s recent solo exhibition at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum and Library, which focused on the late president’s childhood home and his memoir An Hour Before Daylight.
Poetic wall reliefs by Ron Isaacs, another of Momentum’s inaugural artist partners, depict garments combined with foliage, branches, and found objects – all remarkably constructed from plywood and paint! Isaacs’s trompe l’oeil sculptures explore notions of identity and nostalgia through the artist’s masterful manipulation of the medium. For over 50 years, Ron has astounded viewers with his incredible attention to detail and visual sensibilities.
Envelop yourself in the fantastical world of Paul Sattler. Allegorical paintings draw on history, folklore, and spirituality, weaving the artist’s interpretations of these concepts through bold color and striking content. Some are autobiographical, illustrating events from Sattler’s childhood or compiling imagery familiar from past works into new constructs, creating a rich and ambiguous narrative that is both visually stimulating and provocative. In Sattler’s work, animals and characters engage in theatrical compositions that leave viewers in awe of the artist’s technical skill and vivid imagination.
