Coast Furniture, known as the largest in-stock furniture dealer in Northwest Florida, has made a name for itself as a reliable destination for quality home furnishings. The store offers a broad selection of pieces from well-known brands like Rowe, Hooker, Bernhardt, ART, and Uttermost, among others. In fact, it is the largest known Rowe Furniture dealer on the Gulf Coast. The VIE team recently toured the expansive showroom and caught up with co-owner Sam Miller to find out what makes Coast Furniture unique.

“We work hard to stay on trend with the latest styles in home furnishings,” Miller explains. “Many of our upholstered items—like sectionals, sofas, and sleeper sofas—are made in America, which is a big deal for us because it ensures quality, comfort, and reliable customer service.”

We asked Sam a few questions to get to know him and the business better.

VIE: How did you get started in the furniture industry?

Sam Miller: I was born and raised here in Destin and initially started in the consignment furniture business. Over time, I transitioned into new home furnishings. In 2020, my brother, Justin Miller, and I decided to launch Coast Furniture, not realizing the pandemic was just around the corner. Fortunately, we had ordered all the furniture to stock our store before everything shut down, so we were in a great position when the pandemic hit. We were lucky to have plenty of inventory during that challenging time. We’re grateful for the success we’ve achieved in our hometown and the support we’ve received from our community.

VIE: Describe the Coast Furniture showroom in three words.

SM: Quality, Trending, Value

VIE: What design trends have you noticed becoming increasingly popular?

SM: We have noticed a growing preference for clean lines and a slightly more contemporary aesthetic. While muted colors continue to be a staple here on the Gulf Coast, we’ve also seen a noticeable shift toward warmer tones with a mix of natural woods.

VIE: Are there any styles or aesthetics that tend to sell particularly well?

SM: Rowe is our top-selling upholstery brand, and we’ve seen tremendous success with their performance fabrics, especially Crypton Home Nomad Snow. Natural woods and bleached teak have also become increasingly popular among our customers.

VIE: You offer free in-home design services. How does this work?

SM: Yes, we offer free design services to all our clients. When you are ready to purchase furniture for your new home or investment property, we visit your home to assist with measurements, furniture and decor placement, and color selections that best suit your spaces.

VIE: How quickly can a customer receive a piece of furniture after purchasing from Coast Furniture?

SM: We pride ourselves in having a vast in-stock inventory we can deliver the next day or sometimes the same day.

VIE: Managing the largest in-stock furniture dealer in Northwest Florida must come with its challenges. What strategies do you employ to ensure efficient operations and customer satisfaction?

SM: We aim to provide the best customer service on the Gulf Coast. These days, customer service can seem like a thing of the past with all the automated responses and people passing you off to someone else. At Coast Furniture, we focus on making every client happy. I personally address any issues that may come up. Customer satisfaction isn’t just our goal; it’s our passion.

VIE: What is your number one piece of advice for people looking to furnish or refurnish their homes?

SM: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Our trained design consultants can take your project from start to finish or offer guidance where you need it most with our complimentary design services. Their support can make a huge difference when furnishing your space.
