Cafe Thirty-A Celebrates Thirty Years

September 2024

If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It

By Anna Gilchrist

For thirty years, Café Thirty-A has been a consistent beacon of excellence on Florida’s Highway 30-A, even as the culinary scene from Inlet Beach to Miramar Beach has seen a continuous influx of new, contemporary restaurants. This 30-A landmark, established in 1995, has upheld its original vision, cultivating a devoted following among both residents and tourists.

Upon taking ownership in 2023, Jackie Maliszewski and Dave Kessler committed to upholding the vision of the late, esteemed founder Harriet Crommelin: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” They have honored this legacy by preserving the restaurant’s traditions while introducing subtle modern elements, achieving a perfect blend of old and new.

Cafe Thirty-A

As one of the longest-standing restaurants on Highway 30-A, Café Thirty-A’s enduring success comes down to its pursuit of consistency.

Its menu draws on the signature Coastal Southern flavor that has made it a must-visit restaurant for decades. Even as the winter months near and tourists start to dwindle, the dining room remains lively, filled with a blend of returning regulars and delighted first-time guests. Many visitors plan their vacations around a stop at Café Thirty-A, eager to enjoy a favorite dish they’ve been dreaming about since their last visit.

Beyond the kitchen, consistency defines every aspect of the restaurant. Many staff members have been with the restaurant for years, fostering a welcoming and familiar atmosphere. This allows loyal, returning guests to feel at home with each visit, making every meal a tradition that revives cherished memories of past 30-A getaways and special celebrations.

While Jackie and Dave have made it their mission to preserve Café Thirty-A’s history, they also allow it to evolve naturally. Signature classics, like the famous Crab Cakes or the Sesame Crusted Tuna, remain permanent fixtures on the menu, but each chef brings their unique history of flavor and flair to the menu.

The restaurant’s design mirrors this approach, with subtle interior updates that invigorate the space while preserving its familiar allure. This philosophy extends to the cocktail list, which offers playful twists on timeless classics. Drinks like the Thirty-A Old Fashioned or a light Pineapple Cosmo keep the bar program exciting, without guests having to stray too far from their traditional go-to drink.

“The most rewarding aspect since David and I took over the restaurant is hearing people express gratitude for upholding traditions while embracing our new additions,” Jackie reflects. “It’s truly humbling that Café Thirty-A continues to earn excellent reviews for both its cuisine and service.”

This year, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Café Thirty-A will host a special 30th Anniversary Christmas edition of its Annual Charity Ball, one of the restaurant’s most cherished traditions. The evening will include a large silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting Caring and Sharing of South Walton. As Café Thirty-A celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, owners Jackie and Dave remain committed to carrying Harriet’s vision into the future. Jackie noted that the ball “gets better and better each year,” making it one of the most memorable parts of Café Thirty-A’s history.

Café Thirty-A has thrived for thirty years in a region experiencing continuous growth, proving that a strong legacy endures. Guests return repeatedly to savor its exquisite culinary offerings. With Harriet’s legacy guiding its path, the restaurant is poised for a future as memorable as its past three decades.
