Finally Making It Out of the Group Chat

Headed to The Beach Club

A redhead, a brunette, and two blondes walk into The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina. Now that’s not the start of a joke, but the beginning of a perfectly curated coastal escape. Tucked into Mount Pleasant along the edge of the harbor, this waterfront retreat blends Southern tradition with a breezy, coastal sensibility. With suitcases in tow, blankets draped around necks, and travel clothes slightly wrinkled from the six-plus-hour car ride, the group arrives just as the salt air rolls off the harbor.
N estled next to the historic USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier, the first impression is all soft hues and views for days. Wide porches stretch toward the water, palms sway through the breeze, and the architecture nods to classic Lowcountry design without feeling overly traditional. Stepping into the lobby feels like entering a coastal clubhouse, its furnishings creating more of a gathering space than a pass-through.
Inside, the guest rooms feel like a thoughtfully designed retreat, with airy interiors and coastal textures that aren’t overdone. It’s the kind of place—and we surely did just this—where you drop your bags and immediately step out onto the balcony, because the view is just that good, with part of it filled with the iconic Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
During a girls’ trip, a big make-or-break factor in choosing a hotel is the size of the bathroom. Being able to house four girls and their straighteners, curling irons, and massive makeup bags is key. Not only are the bathrooms at The Beach Club big and bright, but everything is thoughtfully laid out—double sinks with extra-long vanities, plenty of room to spread out, a deep soaking tub, and a separate walk-in shower—so on a night where we’re cutting it close to a reservation time, everyone is able to keep it moving. And speaking of bright, the lighting inside the bathroom and bedroom is unreal, which is rare for hotels! It’s soft and natural but bright enough that you can get ready confidently without second-guessing how you’re about to look outside.
A favorite feature of The Beach Club is how it’s a perfect fit for everyone in the friend group. Here, there are four friends, which means four personalities:
First, there’s the planner, the one who has everything timed to perfection. She has the color-coded itinerary, reservations, and backup plans if something falls through. Nothing is missed on her watch. She’s in heaven here because everything is easy to organize, from poolside cabanas to spa appointments and the ferry schedules into Charleston. She even has the assistance of the hotel staff to solidify plans.
Then there’s the go-with-the-flow friend. She has zero preferences or expectations and is just happy to be there. Oh, we’re going skydiving? Sure thing! We’re going swimming with sharks? You bet! They’re down for whatever the group decides. At The Beach Club, everything is walkable, low-stress, and very flexible. She can grab the group lounge chairs, order some food at The Reel Bar or The Bridge Bar, and maybe see if bikes are available to ride around the marina.
Next is the wild card. She’s unpredictable in the best way! This friend is bringing random ideas to the table, whether that’s cool dive bars to try, staying out late to get the best ice cream in town, or taking spontaneous detours down alleyways to hidden gems. The planner and the wild card tend to have a hard time together! She’ll gravitate toward the pool bar, sunset drinks overlooking the harbor, or even taking the last-minute shuttle into downtown.
Last but not least is the relaxer. They just want to chill. Think of spa days, naps, lounging by the pool, slow mornings with breakfast coming by room service, and skipping a few of the planned activities to recharge. The Beach Club is where she thrives. Everything she wants is at her fingertips.
There are two bars on the property, which makes it easy if the group wants to stay on site. The Reel Bar has a super laid-back vibe, with live music, quick, easygoing cocktails, and even a small man-made beach section to hang out on and walk around barefoot. So you can tell this one doesn’t have a dress code!
The Bridge Bar gives the opposite energy. It’s the only rooftop bar overlooking the entire Charleston skyline, so the views are one of a kind. This is your get-dressed-up, take pictures, order-a-cocktail spot. It’s open-air, breezy, and just feels more elevated.
When you need a full meal of Southern coastal cooking, The Beach Club also has The Charleston Harbor Fish House. It’s located right under The Bridge Bar! All the classic seafood dishes are there, and how much fresher can it get than being right on the water? For someone like the planner or the relaxer, having everything only a few steps away is all you can ask for.
Before you know it, it’s the final night together. The dinner bill is paid, and there are drinks in hand as you’re heading down the dock. This is where the energy shifts. The conversations get a little deeper and more nostalgic. You go over all your favorite memories, not just from the trip, but of the twenty-year friendship. There are tons of “I can’t believe we…” and lots of “Do you remember when…” moments of reminiscing. Someone inevitably says, “Wait, this is so pretty,” as the sun sets, turning the sky pink, and boats make their way into the marina. As the four of you turn to walk back to the room, ready to go through all the photos from the weekend, the next question isn’t just where you should go next, it’s how soon you can all do it again.
To Alisyn, Heather, and Lindsey—here’s to twenty-plus more! <3
