THE FORCE IS WITH BLOOMINGDALE’S!

The Diane von Furstenberg sketch for Star Wars character Rey.Everyone is getting on board with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, including Bloomingdale’s, who have recently formed a partnership with the Lucasfilm movie, set to open in theaters December 18. Their partnership is with the light side (not dark) as they plan a major philanthropic initiative.

In celebration of the highly anticipated, soon-to-be released film, ‘Star Wars: The force Awakens,’ Disney and Bloomingdale’s are joining forces and collaborating with 10 renowned fashion designers in a new fashion-meets-fundraising initiative, appropriately named “Force 4 Fashion.” The list of designers consists of Dian von Furstenberg, Cynthia Rowley, Giles Deacon, Halston, Opening Ceremony, Ovadia & Sons, Parker, Rag & Bone, Timo Weiland and Todd Snyder. Each designer has created a look based on a ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ character, and will participate in a charity auction.

Screen Shot 2015-11-18 at 8.39.40 AMOn December 2nd, the designers’ looks are to be unveiled at a “Force for Fashion” launch event in New York City. The looks will then be displayed in Bloomingdale’s NYC flagship windows the following day. Outfits are scheduled to be auctioned off December 2-18 by Bloomingdale’s on charitybuzz.com. Proceeds will benefit Bloomingdale’s holiday charity partner, Child Mind Institute on behalf of Star Wars: Force for Change, which is a charitable initiative to encourage people to make a positive impact on the world.

As a bonus, Michael Kaplan has designed three limited edition “little brown bag” (Bloomingdale’s classic known reusable totes), available for purchase exclusively at Bloomingdale’s stores just before Thanksgiving. These totes will also appear in pop-up shops featuring various Star Wars inspired merchandise.

This collaboration is especially exciting as it celebrates fashion in relations to pop culture and charity. “Bloomingdale’s is continually looking for of-the-moment initiative to surprise and delight our customers while also furthering our philanthropic outreach,” announced Anne Keating, Bloomingdale’s senior vice president.

Big plans and things are to come from Star Wars, as it approaches a big come back on the big screen. Don’t miss out on joining the “Force for Fashion” and keep an eye out for Bloomingdale’s window displays for some Star Wars magic!
