Move over Kendall, Naomi, and Cindy – Barbie goes high fashion

There are many reasons to travel to Montréal, in the Canadian province of Québec. The skyscrapers are beautifully arranged, the architecture of the historic buildings is art for the eyes, and even the name of the city sounds charming—and for fashion indulgers, there’s now another exciting reason to plan a trip. Barbie is launching the largest Barbie Expo in the world at the upscale shopping center, Les Cours Mont-Royal, located in the heart of downtown Montréal!

It’s been a big year so far in the headlines for Mattel’s iconic, fashionable Barbie, first announcing a full-body makeover, and now she’s getting her own haute couture show on the “runway” (display shelves) at her own museum! Patrons will get the chance to see a thousand versions of the dolls in a five thousand-square-foot museum. This is a permanent museum expo, so there’s no telling what exciting Barbie displays might be there in the future.

Montreal proudly welcomes the Barbie Expo as it took two years to pull the museum together. “We wanted to do something different that would celebrate the history of haute couture fashion and reflect on the high-end environment at Les Cours Mont-Royal,” explains Valarie Law, vice president of marketing and communications at the Soltron Group (a federal corporation that owns Canadian Plaza).

The Barbies will be dolled up in very long list of high-end designer pieces from Chanel, Versace, Givenchy, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Dior, Carolina Herrera, Hervé Leger, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and many other fashion legends. Imagine jewel-encrusted dresses, a Paris Fashion Week-worthy runway, and thigh-high boots that will make any fashion lover green with envy!

The ageless fashion- and career-inspiring doll will also showcase Old Hollywood glam style, as she will don outfits inspired by Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marilyn Monroe. Other notable style icons Barbie will portray are Kate Middleton, Beyoncé, Marie Antoinette, Coco Chanel, Grace Kelly, and Cleopatra.

You don’t have to be a Barbie or fashion connoisseur to enjoy the expo. Movie aficionados may also enjoy it, as the Barbie museum is going to feature scenes from those blockbuster favorites such as Grease, The Wizard of Oz, The Hunger Games, Titanic, My Fair Lady, Gone with the Wind, and Legally Blonde.

Admission to the exhibit will be FREE, but patrons can give back with donations accepted for Make-A-Wish® Québec. Ready to go? We are too!
