John Krasinski Launches “Some Good News” Dedicated to Sharing Positive Stories

During these uncertain times, it’s OK to feel overwhelmed by the news about COVID-19. That’s why The Office and Jack Ryan star John Krasinski decided to create his own YouTube channel called Some Good News. It is dedicated to featuring all positive stories to remind us, as Krasinski said, “No matter how tough life can get, there’s always good in the world.”

Filmed in his home office while practicing social distancing, Krasinski created his own newsroom with the help of his two daughters, who designed the colorful SGN logo, and his movie-star wife, Emily Blunt. Krasinski channels a typical news reporter (or at least his top half), and adopts the typical new anchor mannerisms while shuffling his stacks of paper.

In the search to find content for the show, Krasinski looks to his Twitter following to share #SomeGoodNews. His first SGN episode highlighted some of the replies from fans on Twitter, including global appreciation of healthcare workers, sharing stories of love and kindness among various communities, and a personal success story for Krasinski—the fifteenth anniversary of The Office. Toward the end of the episode, Krasinski chatted with Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, the Dunder Mifflin office manager in the famous television series. They reflected on some of the most memorable moments from the show, and the episode got rave reviews from fans around the world, which Krasinski said was “personally emotionally overwhelming.”

Returning this week with his second episode, Krasinski opened the segment with tips viewers sent him on how he could improve the show, as well as showing people around the world who were inspired to start their own versions of Some Good News. (He approved the copyright violations and even encouraged more.) Following his comical tips, Krasinski showcased how people and companies around the world have stepped in to provide much-needed medical supplies during these troubling times, including the hockey equipment manufacturing company Bauer which is providing face shields for doctors and nurses on the frontlines battling the COVID-19 outbreak.

Krasinski then video chatted with a young girl, Aubrey, who was supposed to see the hit musical Hamilton on Broadway for her birthday. Due to the worldwide pandemic, Aubrey wasn’t able to go, but in hopes of fulfilling her birthday wish and making it unforgettable, Krasinski video chatted the original Broadway cast members, including Leslie Odom Jr. and Lin-Manuel Miranda, for a star-studded performance of the play’s opening number, “Alexander Hamilton.” It was inspiring and emotional, to say the least. Happy Birthday, Aubrey! (Of course, Emily Blunt, who starred as Mary Poppins herself alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda in Mary Poppins Returns, had to Zoom-bomb this episode as she’s a huge Hamil-fan, as well.)
